Birds in the Area
According to the Department of Nature Conservation ninety-four bird species have been sighted in the Oorlogskloof Reserve including Black Eagle, African Fish Eagle and Booted Eagle, Gymnogene, Rock Kestrel, Blackshouldered Kite, Jackal Buzzard, Cape Francolin, Namaqua Sandgrouse, Common Quail, Egyptian Goose, Spurwinged Goose, Namaqua Dove, Rock Pigeon, Southern Boubou, Bokmakierie Fiscal Shrike, Cape Robin and Cape Sugarbird. Along the riverbed the extremely shy Rameron Pigeon, Cape Batis and Southern Boubou are commonly encountered.

Reptiles include the Angulate Tortoise as well as ten lizard, agama and gecko species. The most common snake species are the Black Spitting Cobra, Boomslang, Cape Cobra, Common Egg-eater, Spotted Skaapsteker and Whipsnake. The Cape Raucous Toad and common Platanna are frequently found in or near the river. The Oorlogskloof River is also inhabited by three endangered fish species, endemic to the river system, namely the Sawfin, the Clanwilliam Yellowish and Clanwilliam Sandfish. More common species like the chubby minnow are also found in the river.
